Proudly supporting the opening of Centre 33's new hub!
In July, a local charity, Centre 33, launched a new hub for young people in Huntingdon, with 70 individuals and organisations gathering to celebrate this exciting development. The event was attended by the Mayor of Huntingdon, and we were thanked by Centre 33 CEO Beth Green, who acknowledged the role we'd played in the establishment of the hub by providing a suite of furniture for their two-storey building.
Harriet Millward, the charity's Director of Development and Partnerships, summarises how we assisted: 'We worked with Lee and Scott to furnish the new hub in Huntingdon. We needed a mix of furniture for our reception area, a room where we deliver group support work, and an upstairs office including a boardroom for our support team. We found that the Alexander Green Office Interiors team goes way beyond the call. They provided a high-quality service and were professional, punctual and friendly. They sourced, delivered and fitted the furniture that was right for us – multiple office desks, office chairs, meeting room chairs, desk screens, cupboards and a standing desk. They're fantastic, reliable and trustworthy, and we wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again. They were simply fabulous!'
With the success of the Huntingdon facility, we're already talking to the Centre 33 team about how we can help with creating a bigger and better Cambridge hub in the future.
Centre 33’s new hub offers the only open-access drop-in service in Huntingdon where young people aged up to 25 can access support for mental health, housing, unemployment, sexual health and caring responsibilities under one roof. Based in The Old Chapel, the hub sits just off the High Street and offers space for one-to-one and group support - you can learn more here.
Centre 33 is a charity supporting young people, with many people they see saying they have no-one to turn to when they're worried, scared or have a problem they can’t solve. Centre 33 provides free and confidential support for anyone aged up to 25 across Cambridgeshire, helping with their emotional and practical needs. Since first opening its doors in Cambridge in 1981, the charity has helped 50,000 young people. Having started operating in Huntingdon nine years ago, they’ve experienced a big increase in the number of young people who need support, and last year enquiries were up a third on the year before. As well as responding to rising demand, the charity was working across multiple sites in Huntingdon which was challenging for young people, who sometimes needed to visit different places, and for the charity’s team of staff and volunteers who needed to ensure that the right support was available.
The charity relies on funding from a range of local individuals and organisations, with donations helping young people in many different ways:
- £14 can cover the costs of the support and information line for an hour, meaning Centre 33 can be there when a young person needs to call
- £165 could help a young person struggling and with no-one else to talk to, enabling them to access one-to-one support and the practical help that's right for them
- £2,000 could help 35 young carers to take a break from their significant responsibilities, enjoy a fun day out and meet others in a similar situation
The long-term impact that support through Centre 33 can have was featured in an anonymous letter the charity received from someone they supported – take a look here.
In addition, a 17-year-old service user named Ashley commented: 'Having a hub to be able to drop into whenever we need to talk or if we just need a bit of a time out is so helpful. I’ll never be able to thank Centre 33 enough for how they've helped me and so many other young people.'
As always, we remain very grateful to SWECO, who kindly donated their surplus desks to Centre 33.
